Speculate to Accumulate

Post: # 335669Post hoppy »

Below are the latest odds for the 2022/23 National League season.
According to the bookies Wrexham are cast-iron certainties to win the title. The very mean odds of 6/4 will not tempt me. The good thing with such a hot favourite is that the odds for all the other clubs are fairly generous.
If you think Mr Brennan has recruited well how about a little flutter on the Bees at 100/1 (Each way, 1/4 the odds for a top three finish).
For me,though, I think there is very good value in Southend (22/1), Bromley (50/1) and Dorking (80/1), all Each Way opportunities.
Anything catch your eye?

Wrexham. 6/4
Chesterfield. 17/2
Notts Co 9/1
Solihull Moors. 11/1
Oldham. 20/1
Dagenham. 20/1
Southend. 22/1
Halifax. 25/1
Boreham Wood 25/1
Torquay. 25/1
Scunthorpe 33/1
Yeovil. 40/1
Bromley. 50/1
York. 50/1
Dorking. 80/1
Gateshead. 100/1
Woking. 100/1
BARNET. 100/1
Eastleigh. 100/1
Altrincham. 150/1
Aldershot. 150/1
Maidenhead 200/1
Maidstone. 200/1
Wealdstone 200/1

Anyone betting on Wrexham at 6/4 would be brave. Some of those odds are bonkers but as you've said it's early days and it wouldn't take a lot to change them. I'm sure if I had a £1000 on Barnet (which I wouldn't) they'd come into 8/1.

Some minor changes to the odds I posted earlier.

Notts County was 9/1 now 17/2
Solihull was 11/1 now 12/1
Southend was 22/1 now 20/1
Yeovil was 40/1 now 33/1
Gateshead was 100/1 now 66/1
Woking was 100-1 now 66-1

Bees still 100/1

Meantime you could do worse than have a little punt on Barnet to beat Halifax.
Halifax's pre season has been pretty dire.
P7 W1 D1 L5 F7 A11
The one win was 3 0 away to Curzon Ashton.

So, fill your boots up!!
Bees win 12/5
Draw 11/4
Halifax win 13/12

Good luck all.

Well, we might have been impressed by our 2 0 win on Saturday but Skybet weren't.
They are now offering 150/1 on the Bees winning the NL (1/4 the odds for a top three finish).

I hope some of you took advantage of last week's generous offer from the bookies of a 12/5 Bees win.
Well, they are at it again, folks!!

Gateshead win Evens
Draw 3/1
Bees win 14/5

It would be considered somewhat rude to refuse this generous offer!!
Good luck Bees and good luck Bees fans.

Punters have followed your lead, Doyley, best price now on a Bees win is 11/5. Gateshead win has drifted to 5/4.

Heard an interesting phone in problem this week. Guy in a betting shop wrote out a bet, x-x to win at odds written in by assistant. They wrote the wrong figure down, something like 8-1 instead of 4-1.
He insisted they should pay out at 8-1 but they wouldn’t. !! Surely it’s a contractual obligation ?? Betting slips and pens! Remember those ?!!

When i was a lot younger I used to come home and my wife would say "have any winners today" I'd look at her totally oblivious to the fact I had a getting shop pen lodged behind my ear lid.

I now avoid betting but have an occasional flutter a couple of times a year.

With regards to your question if the bet was taken they should payout on the info on the betting slip. If they don't you should complain to the firm and you have the option of taking it further to the gaming commission, which the big companies try to avoid.

My son used to work for Paddy Power in Winchmore Hil, they had a few high rollers in there trying to launder drug money. They'd put £500 on a greyhound just as the bell rang for the hare starting, and then drop the cash on the floor as the traps opened, giving them the time to see how thier dog fared through the first few corners. If it was behind they'd just walk out the shop leaving the cashier with a big problem.

Understandably, with Barnet so high in the NL, most bookies have cut the odds on us winning/top three. The odds now range from 40/1 - 100/1.
Inexplicably SkyBet have increased the odds to a massive 250/1.
Surely worth a £1 each way?

I used to work in a bookies when I was at uni. What you have described is a slow count, nothing to do with money laundering. Also, if someone put a £500 bet on the dogs, the cashier would almost certainly need to phone the race room to get permission to take the bet. Anyway it is a fairly basic scam which is easily countered by telling people to piss off if they try and put a bet on as the bell is ringing

Either way how is it a scam? Do they drop less money than what the original bet was?

The punter runs up with money at the last moment saying something like “150 on dog 2”and pressures the cashier to process the bet. Because there is such a large stake, you cant possibly count it before its too late, so the idea is that the cashier feels obliged to put it through before they can receive and count the money. The punter holds onto the money as the race is going off and the bet is processed. In dog racing its obvious if your dog is going to lose quite early on. If it looks like they are going to lose, then they run out of the shop with the money. If it looks like it’s going to win, they hand over the money as if that was what was always going to happen.

Its a stupid scam. But people who try and do scams in betting shops usually are. Its easily rebuffed. And even if you get it on, you could still end up losing your money. And if you event attempt it once, every shop in the area will know who you are and wont serve you.
