Exeter (Away) The Our Stand's Too Big For Us Match Thread

Post: # 383411Post Bee_Forever »

So..... Saturday sees the bees in the First Round of the FA Cup after a convincing win against Chelmsford in the Qualifying Round.

After a few joicy fixtures in the league with Exeter we now find ourselves two leagues and forty places adrift from them. As a fan owned team they have shown incredible resillience to be pushing for promotion in league 1 sitting 3 points off the playoffs with 10 points from their last 5 games. The Grecians urnings have been slightly diverted towards Barnet with £1 from every away supporter going to Barnet FC to pay for the bus shelter stand which is behind the goal. It is there that we will be situated on Saturday; our own bit of Hive from Hive.

In terms of Barnet's team putting to one side Deano's anger at our second half performance it was good to get a win on the board before the two week break from the league and we will be looking to give a good account of ourselves in this fixture. Exeter as well as being the gateway to Cornwall is home to a storming Norman Cathedral and a lovely Wetherspoons based in an old country house. Unfortunately the short notice has ruled out Great Curtis Railways on cost grounds and the South West trains pootler is replaced by a bus for some of the way so I don't expect a massive away following, especially given this is not a new ground for many and our fans have treated the Cup this season with the same respect that Dean Brennan treats Laurie Walker.

In terms of team line up the first person to say this is a "free hit" will receive a match thread yellow card :hi: . We don't have a midweek fixture (Bedfont and Broomsticks doesn't count) so we may as well go with our best team and try and pull off a cup upset. I would go:-

---------------------------------------Hayes--------------------------------

-------------------Rye----------------Oluwu---------------Kenlock-------

-----Collinge-----------Shelton-------------Hartigan------------Coker--

---------------------------Hobson------------Brunt--------------------------

-------------------------------------Kabamba--------------------------------

Subs:- Bellagambin, Cropper, Kanu, Kizzi, Stead, Chapman, Clifford

I am doing this one on the Percy Bus. Hoping we can progress to the second round and get some more money to invest in the squad.

COYBS.

Great post cranners 👏👏
I’d be tempted to start Cropper as I think he’s been brilliant in his recent performances and I’d like to see Kanu in a more advanced role,

Spot on re cropper, looks like he means business this season. His throw in’s offer the set piece advantage too

Agree with the going with Cropper, he's been good this season, as well as Idris. Love Danny C but he looked a bit off the pace on Saturday, not unsurprisingly given his time out injured.
Steady won't be playing or in the squad, he's injured, unfortunately :grrr:

I'd agree regarding Collinge. The guy needs to get match fit. Needs a few weeks training and arguably a good run-out in the Middlesex Cup. Give Cropper a go this weekend. The long throw can be a great weapon in a cup tie. Bring Idris on as the impact forward if Steady is out. Tough tie but we are more than capable if lady luck is on our side.
Barnet showing all the flair of Rupert-the-Bears trousers, but lots more style!

I’d have Andy Iro ready from the bench for a late equaliser too I reckon.

This is a local game for me. I see it as a bit of a free hit. I just hope it doesn't end up like Martin Allen's famous "Father Christmas" jaunt to Yeovil.

Did you? Really? My geography (O level 1968) taught me it wasn't.

Training pics show RHJ back involved. Hopefully he will be bCk soon, maybe too early for Exeter.

Currently I'm not sure that he would get back into the starting XI. Cropper is ahead of him IMO & even he doesn't start!
I love Luisma & really miss his skils!
