Exactly the thought I had looking at the images and the hovering roof.

Wasn't obvious in the original designs but from these it looks there's a big glass wall all around, or is it a mesh fence?. The former would help it not be colder than Legends.

Memories of poring over artist impressions of the 2001 South Underhill in the school library.

All hoping that the ultimately disappointing conclusion of that venture will prove well spent if we can get this over the line.

Come on Barnet.

Maybe add another tier of seats every time we get promoted!!

It's definitely missing some amber and 'Barnetifcation' but I guess they don't want the ground to stand out too much at this stage of planning. No doubt it'll be there as and when it's complete.
The clouds have an amber lining at least

Am trying to ascertain the scale of the stands compared to the Legends stand at The Hive

If I am honest, I am rather underwhelmed by the plans - especially the glass utility block. Let's see how they evolve and proposed capacity etc.

I also expect if we do move back home, our ties with The Hive will be severed including valuable income streams, and are sold as a going concern

This could happen if we stay at The Hive, too, indeed at some point it is likely to. The things that actually make money at The Hive are not dependent on Barnet FC. A future owner may have less (/no?) personal attachment to the football teams. Why not cut them off? The difference between this happening at the Hive and at Underhill is that in the latter case we would have much better prospects of building the sort of fan base that will be able to support Barnet FC as a competitive, professional football league club.

On the other hand it could be that the valuable income streams from the Hive help to further boost the income available to fund a team that can progress up the leagues as per the original concept when the Hive was supposed to be our training ground.

In a few years time with a few extensions to the stands Underhill will be hosting 10k attendances for league 1 matches while Wealdstone play Boreham Wood in the NL Premiership in front of 3k+ at the Hive. A happy ending for all ?

I like the designs, slight reservation about the prominence given to the flood lights, which might be expected to encourage opposition from local residents.

As Derek implied priority should be creating a design that allays any local community fears first and foremost to progress this asap.

My one nod to Underhill (Vs Hive) I'd like to see is closed corners, even low roofs, anything that would recreate the abiliity to create a great atmosphere with a smaller crowd the Hive cannot match

And preferably the reintroduction of a sloped pitch :hi:

On capacity, the Barnet Society reported in August that the plan was for an 8,000 capacity stadium. But not sure if that still applies to newer design.

Strikes me as a much smaller version of the plans for Luton’s new ground at power court. Checked and it’s the same architects, so that makes sense.

The plans have possibilities for income streams at the new ground too, albeit not as impressive as the Hive

If you look at AFC Wimbledons new ground, remove the corner seats and with a smaller main stand I think you get a reasonable idea of scale for this being 8,000 capacity.

Much nicer design on paper mind.

Hopefully without the sinkholes!

Actually it's a fair point with the sand layer beneath modern pitches. I remember the water running down the old Underhill pitch on a wet night. Presume the new flatter site a bit less liable to get washed away by it's own temporary river flowing down it!
