He spent half the game on the floor, i think we play better attacking football without him up there.
We have got used to Brunt, Stead, Glover and Chapman buzzing around the 18 yard box.
For some reason we seemed to play deeper with Nicke starting yesterday and he was left isolated at times - inexplicably when Aldershot were down to 10.

Of course he is going to be rusty on his first start of season, but what a header!

What will be interesting is who will be dropped to bench to accommodate Nicke, or dare I say it could Nicke be the option from the bench?

Stead could be more clinical in 18 yard box, but the way he buzzes around forces defenders to make a mistake. I am guessing he'll be the one who makes way, but I don't necessarily agree.
1st start other than the first 2 games!!

A really good read as per always.
If I could be just the tiniest bit pedantic it’s whet the appetite, not wet….although with this rain we’ve had….

Compare this year with last year on a comparison against the other teams and we have picked up 7 more points on last year already (taken into account the 4 points we are down on Halifax and Maidenhead away).

We're also the only team in the league that hasn't drawn a game yet :)
Great! The spreadsheet is back! Brilliant!

I posted two separate comments praising Zak Brunt saying how he has improved and was now seeing the huge talent we know he has, but after saying I thought he was poor last night I get
Two posts accusing me of ' any chance you get to criticise Brunt' yet in DB post match interview and Dean being probably Brunts biggest fan even be said he was way below standards he has set, and even spoke to him at half time, I and many don't set out to criticise players, and with Brunt it's more annoying as we know what he is capable of achieving, if my comments annoy certain people tough, I will always say what I feel and like every fan have the right to do so, this is what this forum is all about, different views from all supporters, check my comments on Brunty were I praised him, I travelled 3 hr return trip last night to support the club I have followed for over 45 years.

Watching Twitter feeds and Flash scores from abroad, that felt like a long second half. Very happy to get back-to-back away wins and clean sheets.

The squad depth we have is probably the best we have ever had. If everyone was fit, apart from Hayes, I'm not sure you'd get a consensus on a first XI if you asked twenty different people. With 5 subs able to be made this year, that should be such an advantage.
I want to be good, is that not enough.

Uniman61 - I think the point is that you have made repeated posts criticising Zak Brunt which you don't seem to do about other players. You may mention other players occasionally but you seem to mention Brunt more than the rest put together. As Dean said in his interview, ZB was not the only player to under-perform last night.

Nobody is saying don't post your opinions. Just maybe not always about the same player.

By the way, so what that you had a 3 hour round trip last night? I imagine many / most of us did, some longer.

Zak Brunt is exactly the type of player who gets criticism from those who do not understand football or how football works. See also Curtis Weston and Mark Byrne. You can coat them off until the cows come home but then when they are missing or leave you wonder why the team is not working as coherently. He had a quiet game yesterday but his intelligence and movement open up possibilities which the likes of Gorman who are beloved for their shithousing simply are incapable of. It is sad to see him being the bette noir of many but the joy of free speech is it makes the idiots easy to spot. Yes he had a bad game but he has been one of the many bright spots this season.

Hayes, who I have been critical of in the past was outstanding again with his handling but he is still learning to be a sweeper keeper and this lead to a few chaotic moments where he found himself in no-man's land as at Relegated Wealdstone. He looks so good in almost every aspect I think he is definitely worth perservering with.

I would agree that Glover could have been subbed earlier but I think Dean was probably hoping that he could keep his head down in the second half especially with so many players struggling fitness wise but the foul in the second half left him no option.

Kabamba looked a bit stiff but took his goal very well. I don't think that he would have lasted the 90 if Rhys Browne had been fit but the time in his legs will do him some good and I think Deano was right to protect Stead.

Hobson I thought was a bit slow and struggled to keep up with the zippy play of Glover and Shelton around him, but you can see there is a player in there. I actually think he may be better deployed alongside Hartigan where the need to run the wings at pace is lessened. He did have an excellent dead ball delivery though.

Tuesday was one of those games where you take the win against a tricky opponent and accept that the ref's guide dog was having a night off and with our injuries and players in the "red zone" we were not able to be "Barnetcelona" but "Barlton" and get a scrotey away win.

A note of appreciation to Aldershot. I love the run down ground, the atmosphere created by the home fans under the drum stand and the excellent away bar. It is becoming one of my favourite away grounds and getting a seat on half way line was also rather enjoyable.

Hopefully we will get some of the missing 8 back on Saturday and will have more options on the bench than 5 defenders and one half fit striker. If not may be time to recall one of our loans against the Fracking Idiots.

Spot on. You praise Brunt when he plays well, but it genuinely feels like you’re waiting for the moment he doesn’t contribute as much to come on here and critique his performance.

Aldershot going down to 10 men seemed to benefit them more than us, we was much better when we both had 11 players on pitch.
Liked the backhill from Tavares for the goal.
The win was the important thing last night.

My understanding was that our 3rd goal on Saturday put us one goal ahead of York on goal difference.

They scored two more goals than us last night but our GD remains the same as theirs. Apologies if I'm missing something glaringly obvious but how is this the case?

Three points from an away game on a miserable Tuesday night. As a fan, you'd have to be very picky to find fault with that.

Completely agree. It's the grinding 1-0s like this that are the mark of any league-winning team. Can't blitz every game. Fingers firmly crossed this is our year!
