Crystal Palace (hive) The Palace In Chains Match Thread
Re: Crystal Palace (hive) The Palace In Chains Match Thread
Solid performance. Of the new signings in the first half RHJ was the stand out, great engine and dangerous going forward. Brunt oozes class didn’t get overly involved. Oluwo got more confidence as the half progressed, Coker not blessed by pace but solid and got involved a lot. Barrett was tidy, lots of good touches, always busy, there’s definitely in a good player there.
2nd half Armstrong was a class above the others. Senior scored a worldy and finished the game getting heavily involved. Granville was more right back wing back so not overly fair to judge. None of the 3 triallists blew me away. Stead looks a menace and can see him scoring goals. Diarra made an error early on but was solid after can’t help but think there’s always a mistake in him, conversely Revan is class and if he can stay fit could break into the team….just not sure where given our strength now!
Overall played well and matched a weakened palace team nicely

I thought Oluwo dealt with Mateta very well. Out of three trialists I thought 15 and 22 did okay and 15 has played decent over the three games. 44 was tidy but didn’t do anything, didn’t really get a cross in or try and beat a man. Has played far too safe for me over these three games. Our shape looks really good and that is what I look for more than the result. Armstrong has been our best player in pre season so far for me.

Armstrong second half was excellent, perfer Beard over Coker offers more threat going forward. The lad from Wrexham was really good.
None of the trialists are better than what we have all pretty meh!

It felt very full, which doesn't normally happen in psf's. Not sure where everyone came from. A large proportion were young fans , so perhaps the effect of summer holidays approaching, or cheaper ticket price? Also lots from local Jewish Community, which does happen some Tuesdays. Good to see a larger crowd, though you do wish these people would come on Tuesday matches which mean more!
I know you can't read anything into psf games but thought we played very well. The first half team played some lovely stuff, and it's nice/beneficial that they mostly know each other. Brunt a classy act and Oluwo impressed me.

Youngsters having a bit of a laugh. Ill-advised of course because it’s the kind of thing which results in an instant banning order, but some of the hand-wringing on twitter is a bit OTT, given what the AB got up to last year and no one batted an eyelid. IMO, good to see the Yoof enjoying themselves.WeAreBarnet wrote: ↑11 Jul 2023, 22:04 Barnet trending on twitter! What was that fire flare kinda thing about?! I missed few mins of second half

Any trialist names?

Brunt looks a serious talent. He was played in the 10 role today though, which is the role Armstrong has been set up for since he came in. We could really do with another old school CM to cover Gorman when he’s out, I wonder if Armstrong could be trained for that role?

I think Armstrong is an all action midfielder, not quite sure he could drop that deep when in possession but he could definitely work on it and thought Pritchard was playing that role well yesterday although wouldn’t want him playing there as he’s very good going forward, I think the answer is definitely a new defensive midfielder

Was Roy Hodgson there?

Very good atmosphere at the Hive. The same during our competitive fixtures would be great.
Proof again that it's not the stadium which is the issue with the place, it's the stay away fair weather fans.
