Dougie Freedman v Man City at 4' 33 (tried the time linking thing, it won't do it!)

As well as Dougie's goal have a look from 8:00 onwards for some Kenny Lowe magic. First a towering header then an amazing assist showing those players from 91/92 could do it higher up the leagues.boots wrote:Dougie Freedman v Man City at 4' 33 (tried the time linking thing, it won't do it!)

"As ever Barnet FC providing the circus for the rest of the football league"
More Danny Baker - from 31:00 onwards - a good few minutes of flowing football, sackings, and Nicky Evans in too tight shorts.

I came across this, so wanted to save it for posterity
It's the BBC News and Weather from 4th May 1991 with Michael Burke.
Rather depressing news, so if you only want Barnet related stuff jump to 14:40

Looking for the Jason Puncheon vs Colchester goal - came across this which i'd never seen on You Tube before.
Yep, Clist scored, yep, we all got pissed. And what a tactical genius making the Yak a right winger....

I have said now for the past few years I believe in general the standard of football has gone down. Except for man city and liverpool. In general standard is not As good as say 5 or even 10 yrs ago. If you go through teams such as Arsenal. Chelsea. Newcastle. Players today individually are nowhere near as good. Newcastle strikers of old. Malcome McDonald. Alan shearer. Even Andy carol. Now they have Joelinton. £40 milliion. Not going into all teams or players but this is just a a for instance. And this then drops down to the national league. Managers go after a player who is ok at our level and are quoted silly money. If you go back to years shown in this heading. Season of 92 what good players we had at this time even under the ownership of arguably our worst ever owner ( yes he did save club from going under ) but he was not a easy man to get on with. Sacked Barry fry 7 times. Players not getting paid etc. But what a players we had over these years. Paul showler. Gary bull. Frank murphy. Harry willis. Mark carter. Kenny Lowe. and of course The tanned God Sir Nicky Evans The list goes on and on. How many of today's team would get in these teams from say 91 to 96. Not many.possibly Loach. Sweeney. Even Jack Taylor would struggle.

I love the idea that English club football was stronger in the days when it only drew from players in Britain and Ireland than it is now it draws them from all over the world.
Some teams are better than they were and some are worse of course, I'm guessing my Bournemouth supporting friend thinks their team is quite a bit better than any they've had until the last 5 years.
If players from Barnet now wouldn't get in the team from Barnet 1990-3 (they also wouldn't get in the team from 2014-15 incidentally) is that not because this team is mid table fodder in the fifth tier and that team was blasting its way to promotion from the fourth tier?

The general quality of footballers has increase dramatically throughout the years and will continue to increase, no doubt about it.
