Grazioli's huge error today

Post: # 7461Post b4life »

Just back from the game. Fraser and Southam were just not good enough in midfield. Graz made a huge error in not picking Deering in the starting line up. Time and time again in the first half these 'so called' defensive midfielders did nothing to prevent Bury's attacks. At times they looked lost and Bury exploited huge gaping gaps in midfield. When Deering came on we got much more posession in midfield and looked far more dangerous. I am absolutely certain that had Deering started we would have picked up a point. Yes, Bury are good, but with a balanced team we looked almost as good in the second half. No need to panic, still 4 games to go and if Graz pickes the right team next time we can beat anyone.

Also, we had god knows how many corners, when are we ever going to find someone who can take a decent one.

It seems strange how Deering could be left out of the starting line up.
More strange however must be our inability to get professional footballers to be able to take decent corner kicks....very frustrating.

I am surprised that little Deering was not starting today considering how well he played against Crewe

There would seem to be 2 answers. Either Graz had some idea that we needed to be more defensive to counter attcking threat from certain Bury player(s) - or Deering was not 100% fit.

Either way, let's hope Graz has learned from this and Deering starts at Gillingham.

Wonder whether Oxford will allow him to play against them?

Deering not in the starting eleven is incomprehensible.
Can somebody ring Graz and ask what medication he's on ?

No reason why they would.

Can't fathom why Deering didn't start today. Makes no sense whatsoever.

I knew we were in for a beating when I saw Southam was back in. I am furious - all that good work chucked away.

I can't beigin to tell you how dissapointed I was that Deering didn't start today. He's probably the only player in the team that I actually enjoy watching and doesn't ever make me want to pull my hair out.

In my opinion Southam should'nt have started, although I don't deny that he is probably the most vocal/ passionate player in the team he is not a play maker and has poor spatial awareness. I hope his former captain status is not affecting Graz's judgement.

Yeah was really disappointed too, love Deering :D Can't really understand it, there was no need to change anything and thought we weren't gonna. I guess we were trying to counter Bury's attack and keep them quiet a bit...but the chances of that were very slim, they are too good and we're not good enough! Would have been nice to see us attack from the off, a la Lincoln/Crewe, were going to have to score so why wait. Oh well, at least that should be Hughes back from his suspension and Deering from now on.

I think the idea was to hold things tight for 60 minutes, and then bring on Deering to try and make a difference, unfortunately both Southam and Fraser have proved, on numerous occasions this season, that they cannot do this. For me, Deering had to start, and if as soon as we had allowed Bury to rip us apart for the second time he should have come on for the hapless parsons, with Fraser shifting to Full Back.

That said, whether Deering had played or not, it would not have made any difference to the quality of our defending, and the lapses which lead to the first two goals.

I've just seen the goals. The hapless Parsons indeed!

Starting with Southam was the problem. He is an awful footballer and not good enough for this level. The first goal pretty much sums up what he does during the game when he plays - chases the ball, gets no where near it and then shouts.

Bee forever, did you go to the game? The reason for the first two goals was that our 'so called' defensive midfielders left our backline totally exposed to Bury's raterh decent forwards and midfield.

The first goal was a ball over the top, on the break, and unless Southam has suddernly grown the ability to fly, I doubt he would have been able to stop it. The second goal was a wonder strike, but Parsons still gave the attacker too much space. I agree our central midfield was not effective in the first half, but then none of the team was. I am not a Southam apologist, and also would have preferred to see Deering start, but if you are suggesting that Deering would have done a better job of defending either move, I do not see it.
