Barnet Ladies League Cup Final vs Nottingham Forest

Postby Dreamy » 24 Mar 2011, 21:45

It is currently 0-0 at HT of extra-time. Barnet on top in the first half, pretty even in the second. Both teams denied by the bar. Stacey Sowden has been (wrongly, apparently) sent off for violent conduct in the 2nd half. COYB!!

Update: The game has gone to penalties!

does the sending off mean that she is suspended for the FA cup match on Sunday?

Just got back from the game ... never imagined that I would see Barnet lift a trophy this season! Well done to our girls, especially after playing with ten men (so to speak ...) after the ludicrous sending off of ace goalscorer Stacey Sowden. Played with far more guts than our men have shown all season, and plenty of skill too. And tremendous vocal support throughout the 120 minutes from hundreds of kids chanting "We love Barnet" ...

When you're arguing with an idiot, make sure the other person isn't doing the same.

Great collection of photos, tom4bees !!

Can you, or anyone, shed any further light on the sending off incident? It happened at the far end of the ground, and my failing eyesight wasn't up to picking up what actually happened. Stacey Sowden appeared to be going through on goal in the Forest penalty area, so I'd have assumed that she was more likely to be the victim rather than the perpetrator of any foul play. That said, she seemed to accept the referee's decision immediately, and trotted off the pitch without any great disputing of the sending-off by her or the other Barnet Ladies.

The team did incredibly well not to let the loss of their star player and top goal-scorer affect them. You'd never have guessed that Barnet Ladies were playing with only ten 'men' for the rest of the game.
