Chesterfield (Hive) The Sofa So Good? Match Thread
And so it came to pass, and pass and pass and pass and pass... that we lost at the Hive to Dover as, by Currie's own admission, our front 4 had a quiet game and workmanlike Dover hit us with a sucker point in stoppage time.
Still (out) the joy of August is that when you play ineffective insipid football with no end product you have the chance to put things right a few days later, it is just a shame we cannot do so away from the mausoleum where our fans tend to make more noise.
For Chesterfield, they must be wriggling uncomfortably in their seat after a start which has seen them get 2 points from 4 games. They were tipped by many as dark horses for the National League but with this start they are virtually obsidian.
In terms of our line up, we are missing Sweeney, Johnson, Tutonda, Vilhete, Walker and our new number 9 which leaves us very short in key positions, and makes predicting the team hard, to put it mildly. I would go:-
--------------------------Loach-------------------------
----------Santos---------H. Taylor-----Reynolds-----
--Alexander--------------------------------Elito--------
------------J. Taylor----Boucaud-----Dunne------------
--------------------Mason-Clarke--------------------------
------------------------Akinola------------------------------
Subs: Adams, Vasilou, Matrevics, Barham, Coulthirst
Hoping we have a specialist left back, a centre back and a NUMBER 9 on Board by Saturday, but not holding out any great expectations based on our limited transfer activity sofa.
None the less, we need to get behind the bees and do our bit, even if they are not doing theirs.

Tutonda's injury looked like a dead leg. I may be wrong. But if he isn't fit, why not give Martyn Box a go at LB?
Chesterfield came to the Hive last year and set up with 2 deep banks of 4. They soaked us up and hit us with two counter attacks. To break them down we need to stretch them and provide width.

Tutonda looked far more like a hamstring. He kicked the shot and straight away felt for the hamstring there was no contact from the oppo to create a dead leg. Can’t see him being fit for a few weeks.

I agree, but I think he may not be fully fit either. After the first match of the season he was in the warm down with the partially injured playersninestein wrote:why not give Martyn Box a go at LB?
If we were to go to 3ATB I'd go with 3-5-2 just to give us more options up front wether it be barham bettamer new no.9 or Coulthirst partnering akinola

Chesterfield supporters are saying they got no width and need two wingers. There right back is weak. Only players they believe are good enough to keep them up are Boden and scott. So hopefully DC will play on there right back. But they get reviews of opponents so should be aware of other teams weaknesses. Let's hope we use all means possible and this includes info that supporters put on there clubs forum. Don't want to draw or even worse loose and for us not to use all means of info we can get. As happened twice already. We knew sutton Utd and Dover's strength but it still did not stop them from scoring against us.

DC says we've got to "play...with more energy, more end product and more quality". Too damn right we do after Tuesday's farce.
Re: Chesterfield (Hive) The Sofa So Good? Match Thread
A few more shots on target wouldn't go amiss too. Sounds like we're two teams struggling to get going with known weaknesses. I expect a low scoring game but I usually rubbish at the prediction league so what would I know.

Tutonda has pulled a hamstring. Out for a few weeks.

I predict we will struggle to score again today, at which point pressure will mount on DC to sign a striker ASAP.
Can’t make it today, so I’d love the boys to have proved me wrong when I check the score.

I'm back from holiday and therefore pissed off.
I'll be going today and if Sparkes starts that really will send me over the edge!
Other than that I'm really looking forward to it

Pressure has been on for a striker signing since the season started - if not before - but nothing has changed. The closure of the transfer window is now looking the earliest date. Business should've been done and dusted in the summer.beesknees99 wrote:I predict we will struggle to score again today, at which point pressure will mount on DC to sign a striker ASAP.

Galling to see that that Arsenal lad, Balogun, who got a hat trick against us has scored 9 goals in his last 4 games. Perhaps we could just borrow him for 90 minutes each Saturday.

He scored 25 in 19 for their under 18's last season and one more for the Under 23's. Even if we could get him on for a month while DC gets his intended target it would help.ETBee wrote:Galling to see that that Arsenal lad, Balogun, who got a hat trick against us has scored 9 goals in his last 4 games. I can see it being a struggle for our forwards today, unless we happen to get a penalty or two or can work some magic from a set piece.

Sparkes at LB, Harry Taylor at CB.
Are we aware that the loan system exists? We have FOUR left backs and two CBs out injured.
