Terribly sad only 44 years old, RIP Ugo.

This really is a sad news story. He was very unlucky not to get more England caps, as I felt he was a far better footballer than some of the other centre halfs who did. He also used to always earn me a shed load of points for the original fantasy football league. To have lost someone so young who was coaching the next footballing generation is very sad too.

I see Aston Villa are holding a minute's applause before their match on Sunday. Why do we no longer seem to have minute's silence? A minute's applause to remember and celebrate a long life well lived is fine but surely there is nothing celebratory or applause-worthy about the tragedy of a man of only 44 years suddenly being snatched away without warning?

I see Aston Villa are holding a minute's applause before their match on Sunday. Why do we no longer seem to have minute's silence? I would suggest it is due to the opposition being Brum,the last thing Villa would want is a load of drink fueled idiots making noise through a minutes silence

Exactly that. Most football supporters are too stupid to be trusted to stand there silently for a minute without swearing or shouting abuse (or eating a hot dog), so they must instead all clap like demented seals!

It's a rather lame and over used way of "showing respect" to the sad loss of someone's life.

A proper defender and as stated would walk into the current England side. Tragic to have gone at such a young age, thoughts with his family and friends. R.I.P.

I know that a minute's applause is becoming common, but I feel it totally inappropriate in a lot of cases. And if people behave badly I feel like that should be called out rather than masked.
