One paper that is generally positive and one paper that is generally negative. Why should we be surprised if each puts their own spin on it.

I'm more concerned that someone is still buying the NLP.

He was clearly not up to it after coming back from injury. Sad as he started off really well, but there is no way he should have been offered a new contract.

He, like us should move on.

Two things spring to mind here.

1. All the players were told that no new deals would be discussed until the season was over. In my view this was a good move because it focussed the players on the job in hand.
2. Even if a player is verbally told that a deal would be discussed, we didn't even know what division we would be in, and so how can a specific role for that person be decided, let alone what the budget is going to be to pay them?

Despite this, I think its fair to say this sort of thing goes on widespread in the game. Charlie knows this. At least he's found a club, and he'll be a good player at that club. The story would have been a lot worse in hindsight if that player was frozen out and then left with no club to play for at all.

I'd like to think that Charlie means no malice, had his words taken out of context and the media have blown it up out of proportion like they often do. It's not been a good weekend for us PR-wise what with this and the whole no-show friendly saga. Hopefully we can put this behind us and concentrate on making headlines for the right reasons by making a good start on the pitch. Only a few weeks to go now...

Most of you would be upset if your employer offered you a role verbally, only to withdraw that offer before a contract materialised.

That is piss poor in any line of business and is indicative of the unprofessional manner by which some parts of the club is run.

I can't remember where, but I'm sure I read something that gave the impression that Charlie Mac was encouraged to rush his return from injury to help our promotion push on the basis he would be involved next season.

Maybe I'm mis-remembering, but I think the club has behaved pretty poorly towards him regardless. I also think we would have benefited from having his ability to link up play and create chances this season, but MA obviously wants to go down a more physical route.

I don't think Charlie Mac has been particularly whingy. Having just had a very similar thing happen to me where I was verbally offered a role then it didn't materialise I completely understand. Like CMac I am a bit pissed off and I'm not going to pretend or cover up that I wasn't offered a role especially if someone asks me, however I'm an adult and you just get on with it, much like Charlie's done. Difference between him and I is that i don't have a journalist asking me about what happened trying to get a scoop.

I don't see why the club should bother getting into a tit for tat. The fact is that at this level there is always an upgrade available. MA probably did verbally agree but if he saw a better option in Adrian Whitbread and no contracts were signed, it's his job to get the best from his budget. Yes, it's shit for Charlie Mac but stuff like this happens all the time in football and all walks of life. The only difference is that the local journalist is quite good at digging up stories and this has got out in the public domain. If I was the club I'd just let the story die naturally.

Martin Allen doesn't recognize verbal agreements, never has from my memory. Anyway a good a decision in my book.

More from Charlie Mac...

http://www.times-series.co.uk/sport/134 ... le_career/

It's obviously his side of the story but if true, the lack of rehab reflects rather poorly on the club. The contract or lack of one is a non story compared to that.

sounds a familiar story, aging striker wants coaching role and is refused due to lack of qualifications.

Seems that TK pulled the deal after not using his preferred surgeon not sure why he is upset with Allen, TK handles contracts not Allen.
