Took me a while to get past Wimbledon on top of the league, but the penny finally dropped. 4th place would do for me, although just missing out on auto promotion (same points and GD as those above us) is a bit hard to swallow.

Congratulations to the new management team for achieving this lofty league position. Long may it last.

This maybe to do with that the name is AFC WIMBLEDON and as there name starts with a "A" they are top of the league?

I do believe it stands for 'A Fans Club'. Equally pretentious is their renaming of Kingsmeadow 'The Fan's Stadium'.

I know they've got the whole DIY ethos to them, and they've come a long way in such a short period of time, but they're difficult to like at times...

AFC was chosen because they couldn't just be Wimbledon for legal reasons and they thought AFC sounded non-league having heard it in connection with other clubs (what Bournemouth must have thought!). It was not chosen to stand for anything but people associated with the club (not the club itself to the best of my knowledge) have acknowledged that it could be Association Football Club or A Fan's Club.

I like the AFC thing - it's become tradition for most of the phoenix clubs now and it recognises a common idea and journey they all represent and undertake.

Association Football Club is a credible prefix for a football club. A Fan's Club is rubbish.
