Tax Rebates

Post: # 704Post Mikel Bee »

There must be some accountant bees around here who are clued up on this.

I'm told I could be eligible for a tax rebate by one of these companies who do it all for you. Does anyone have any experience with this? Most importantly, does what they charge make the rebate worth it. How hard would it be to go it alone and do it myself?

Answers on a tax return form ;)

There are some I know for sure who will answer - but if you're PAYE it should be calculated automatically no?

I'd had a useful response on here before: http://www.taxationweb.co.uk/forum/

I have my finger on the 'submit' form for my Tax Return, which is why I absolutely hate this time of the year. However, I've found the HMRC wonderfully helpful for those not in the know, and have given me some great help. Maybe give them a call and ask to speak to them. Their automatic response is not 'speak to your accountant' which is quite helpful.

Thanks MCB. I was paying my 20% PAYE until I finished my last job in June 2010 so didn't pass the £6000 or so tax threshold. HMRC sounds the best port of call.

If it distracts me from finding a job then at least income tax isn't an issue. 8-)

Painfully close against Schalke today. I'll join in on next weeks efforts.

When those considerably richer than I am start paying their fair share, then maybe I wont mind donating a bit extra to the country. We are all in this together apparently.

Definitely contact HMRC and tell them you think you are due a rebate. For all the bad press they get, they are actually very helpful when it comes to things like this.

You can find everything you need on their website.

Unfortunately those who earn more than enough, can make this even, erm, morer, by moving to a tax haven, like Monaco (which is where the profits of anything you buy at Top Shop go), or, erm, Ireland if you have the misfortune to be one of people that give Google (good old hippy company!) some of their billions.

9 times out of 10 it is those with the most who create the wealth for the rest, tax them and they run for the hills, taking jobs and everything with them.
