Southam to take more of a back seat?

I wish to cause no offence, and feel that Southam has a place in the team but I'm just a bit concerned that Southam maybe should be taking more of back seat. I respect and admire Southams passion but noticed after being subbed today he seemed to be rising above his postion by shouting orders at players from the touch line.

I think I'm not alone in my dissapointment of Deering being left out the team today and the only player who seems to have prevented that, as demonstrated by the substituton was Southam.

I feel bad about the ruthless nature of thread but just hope Graz is being equally ruthless in his decision making!

If Graz is ruthless in his decision making, why didn't he just tell Southam yesterday to shut up? Alturnatively seeing as Southam hasn't previously been seen to be shouting orders at players from the touchline, is it not possible that this was something Graz actually encouraged him to do?

As for Southam "prevented" Deering from starting - what did you expect Southam to do, beg to stay on the bench?

If he manages to get even one of our players fired up then I don't care how much he shouts at them!
If anything you'd think they'd up their game just to shut the mouthy git up.

"Rising above his position"? He's club captain! Quite frankly if anyone on the bench, whether its the assistant manager, one of the subs of the kit man, saw one of our players out of position or an opposition player unmarked then I'd fully expect them to shout something to point that out. Or would you rather all the subs just sat their in silence and didn't try to get behind the 11 on the pitch? Should they all just stay silent and, say, let a Bury striker drift in unmarked at the back post when they could have yelled at one of the defender to pick him up? One of the best things in the last few games IMO has been the way the whole squad has got behind those who are on the pitch.

I never thought I'd see a Barnet player criticised for showing some passion and trying to help/encourage the team. It's pretty ironic that one player is substituted, comes off and carries on trying to do his bit to help/encourage the lads on the pitch; a different player comes off, ignores the manager and walks straight down the tunnel. And which ones gets a new thread criticising him? Oh.

Sorry but this is one of the silliest posts I've seen in quite a while.

Devera should clearly be captain. Not only does he seem to care but he's puts in solid performances and only seems to be getting better game on game. It felt in parts like the old Stimson era yesterday, we went a goal down, belief gone and no way back.

I hope Sanchez can square up to Mcleod and Stirling and make them care, because yesterday their blaise attitude was disagrace (Probably should have started a negative thread for them instead).

Devera is captain at the moment.

But say what you want about Glen, there is no one in that team who cares more about us staying up than him, and he's got the experience too. People should get off his back a bit IMO.

Agree with you Ben.

Also I agree with you about Mcleod, shocking attitude yesterday and disrespectful towards Grazioli and us fans

Southam is the club captain, Devera is "on the pitch" captain.

Southam does it during home games as well while he's warming up and I have no problem with it.

Unfortunately, I think everyone must have expected McLeod and Stirling's fight and recent attitude to ebb away with Allen's departure.

Him coming and going has reminded them theyre too big for this town too.

Such a shame Allen left.

Southam has though. The other week when he was injured he was up and down the touchline behind the barrier encouraging his teammates. Southam is always involved when on the bench shouting and encouraging.

Do think it is odd that fans are criticising those players who actually appear to give a dam about the cause.

Problem is the players must now be wondering who to take orders from - Graz, Sanch, Stone, the captain on the field or Southam from the touchline?

So far as I can see it's only the initial poster who has and even his was a bit guarded.

I think when we recall supporters views on players past and present, it's the ones who haven't seemed to care who've always come in for the most critisism.

I think there needs to be no more than 1 maybe 2 authoritative figures communicating clearly and giving orders to the players on the pitch (like most other teams). Ideally they should demand the respect of the whole team.

There's a big difference between giving tactical instructions and shouting encouragement/pointing things (e.g. an unmarked player, one defender not in line with the other three etc.) out. I'd imagine Glen was doing the latter.

Players are allowed to warm up on the touchline but must not intefere with play in any way, for example by shouting encouragement to those on the pitch. (They can do so,within reason, from the bench). I was amazed that the fourth official at Bury and also in the home match against Chesterfield allowed this to happen. It often leads to trouble.
