Sounds like an awful predicament.
As we found in 11/12 then 12/13 having ended the previous season with half a team of loanees!
I don't know how many of Halifax's loaneres are defenders but in 11 league games this year Halifax have conceded just 3 goals.

At the moment I would prefer half a team of reasonable loanees to half a team of rubbish. If we went down, we would still have to rebuild in the summer.

agree, we should have used loans to cover the long term injuries we started the season with rather than blowing our budget on 1/2 of Dagenham!

Indeed Jerroll. And it is tough because you have to do a wholesale reconstruction of your squad as large chunks of it have gone. As we found out this season, it cna be hard to get that right. And it's hard to build up momentum because even if you finish strongly, few of your side is with you the next season.

Can't help thinking we got into a bit of a trap/cycle with this in the early 2010s. Scrape survival with many loanees, start again next season, don't get it right, struggle, so get a load of loanees in, scrape survival and repeat...

The idea that all would be well if we signed several loanees is wishful thinking. As we've seen over the years, there's no guarantees with loanees. Our current one, Ashley Charles, isn't pulling up any trees.
Southport are an example of a club who have signed endless loanees in recent seasons, only to suffer relegation / struggle due to their lack of continuity.
The clubs who do best tend to be the ones with the most settled squads.

Very true, but teams who get relegated tend to be teams who fail to get loans in at the best time.

Had we signed loanees to cover injuries there would have been money left in the kitty to address problem areas rather than throwing it all on signing 14 or so players in 1 hit like Still did and then spending wages on Mo who was binned off after a month- had he been a loan signing we could have sent him back and brought someone else in! Charles is just a kid when we needed someone with experience!

When you say Mo was binned off after a month, do we have any idea what length of contract he signed and why we'd have paid up his contract? He wasn't that bad!

Next season DC or whoever is in charge needs to get the right players in from the start.

We haven't released him, hes still on the payroll - the management don't fancy him! i've no idea if he's any good or not as in 4 months i've seen him play 1 full game at Gravesend, 1 sub in the trophy and 2 msc games out of position!

Seemingly along with:

Byron Harrison, Nana Kyei, Shomuton, Josh Walker, Anthony Charles, or are they on loan somewhere or injured?

Anthony charles left in 2007!! Walker was maimed at Braintree but fcnonews never give updates on what;s wrong with him! Shomoton is definately MIA, Kyei back from loan at Hampton , Harrison was on bench v Barrow! if you mean Ashley Charles, he's on loan to us so we can't have loaned him out!!!and he came on as a sub last saturday!

All those D&R players must of made someone financially happy. Only hope we learn from this.

At the time we signed them, posters on here said how D&R were doing ok / well last season until the financial implications hit them, so how we'd signed players who'd been part of a good team. Fans were pleased with the signings.

The team has clearly missed Charlee Adams since his injury, he's ex D&R. Andre Boucard has been injured for much of the season, quite possibly he's not back to being the player we signed.

Boucard looks fit and has the touch of a good player. He just seems to play in a way that lacks any attacking intent. Perhaps that’s the way he’s been asked to play by DC, if so It would be good to see a change of approach.
