What’s has happened to Still?
Along with many others on here, I was happy that Still got the job
The initial signings seemed decent enough, though I was alarmed that he gave Elito a contract - he didn’t even try in the friendlies when he was trying to get a deal.
So how is it that a manger who has been successful for most of his career at this level has appeared to have lost the knack?
I wonder if it’s that the game has moved on and left him behind. Even at this level, seems to me that more teams try to play football than they used too.
And another thing. When he was appointed he gave an interview that was quite rambling and difficult to listen to. I didn’t even get to the end before switching off and wondered if the players would feel the same way.
Part of me thinks that it’d be absurd to dump a manager in August, especially as we desperately need continuity, but things appear utterly desperate.
I can’t remember a lower point in 30 years supporting the club.

Re: What’s has happened to Still?
We lack a spine.
Cousins looks ok, but not a strong demanding character
Robson ok, one of the few highlights so far. Sweeney looked average so far.
Adams and Fonguck - neither showing signs of anything spectacular
Harrison and Elshito - neither showing signs they should be even making the bench let alone starting 11
All successful sides have a strong spine, BFC is an invertebrate at the moment.
We also seem to lack any team spirit, any team cohesion and any clear game plan.
These are his players,, he has had a full Pre season with them to mold them and make them gel.

His interviews are embarrassing, he’s lost whatever it was that made him successful before. Unfortunately I think he’s just reached the point where he can’t hack it anymore.

JS was useless last time he was manager and drove the fans away with boring long ball hoof football.
Now he is back to kill the club completely off of having any fans.
JS go back to what ever stone you crawled out of.
And those fans who said JS was a great appointment and slated fans off who said JS was a bad appointment, those fans should be ashamed of themselves.
Was obvious from the off set that this appointment was never ever going to work and would end in disaster

I started watching Barnet FC during JS's previous spell in charge. The style of football was possibly even worse than now but at least the results weren't so dreadful. Spending the last 20 or so minutes of every match knowing there's no hope is the real killer.

Totally agree. Team spirit goes a very long way and we appear to have none. MA galvanised a bunch of relegation no hopers into producing promotion winning form at the end of last season just by bringing them together and making them believe. We currently look like a squad of total strangers who just turn up 2 hours before kick off on a match day and not one that has trained and or played together every day for the past 7 weeks!!!!!barnetpete wrote:We lack a spine.

He should resign. For his sake and ours. The players he brought in are not good enough.

MA galvanised a team not short on ability and quality but the managers were not getting the best out of them for whatever reasons.
However this crop of players I don't think have ability or quality which is a big concern!

Re: What’s has happened to Still?
Just watched his post-match interview from yesterday. It’s telling that he keeps talking about “both boxes” without once mentioning midfield. It’s as if the middle of the park doesn’t exist.
He also seems listless and uninspiring, and isn’t reacting with the same vigour that Allen does when there’s a major setback on the pitch. The team will train this week “the same way we’ve always done, the same way I’ve always done.” That doesn’t inspire much hope.
The danger with appointing Still was always that his methods would not have evolved, but his record with Luton at least presumably encouraged many of us to think he still had it.

Surely training the same way every week bores the pants off everybody? Surely a fresh approach is required?
MA might have sometimes come across as a bit eccentric but at least his ideas must have been more inspirational than purely going through the same old drills etc.

If you keep on doing what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always got.gafferbee wrote:The team will train this week “the same way we’ve always done, the same way I’ve always done.”

Get in the box, get out of the box all sounds very familiar.

Re: What’s has happened to Still?
I think we have got a man that is a sad shadow of his former self. His post-match interviews are of a perplexed, jibbering, bumbling man who doesn't seem to know what is going on or how to improve things. His views of the games seem to be totally the opposite of what everyone else is seeing, making his grip on reality almost non-existant. The old JS style of football, while maybe not pretty to watch was effective mostly. The 'style' now is just a shambolic mess lacking any shape, substance or direction with no plan B to back it up when things aren't working out. Suffice to say, I fear JS has lost the plot completely.

The man is 68 years old.
It's not out the question there actually is a problem.
His first interview was bordering on incoherent.
I'm not going to attempt to diagnose anything obviously, but he wouldn't be the first man of his age to suffer.
