Where will we finish in the 18/19 season?

Post: # 252055Post MCB »

Oddly enough I can't find one of these for last season, the only year we havn't had a poll from what I can see. Would be interesting to see what we all predicted at the beginning of last season, I doubt any of us predicted relegation.

So, how we all feeling about this season? We're about 3rd favourite (behind Salford & Chesterfield, joint with Leyton Orient, around 12-1 - Hoppy will advise best odds). But do you agree?

You're allowed to change your vote - which will close in 2 weeks time just before the first league game.

Vote away, we'll bring this back to review in May 2019...

Edit - if you're unsure about how the play offs work...you get a big advantage for finishing 2nd or 3rd. 1 less game & home advantage.

Elimination Round - Match A - 5th place vs 6th place
Elimination Round - Match B - 4th place vs 7th Place

Semi Final - 2nd place vs winner of Match A
Semi Final- 3rd place vs winner of Match B

Promotion Final - Wembley Stadium

The answer is 2nd from bottom - your poll should be 18/19 season

Would like to bee positive (see what I did there), but really can't see us doing anything much. I hope I'm wrong but man for man we are nowhere near as good as the last championship winning team. With the exception of Mauro, as himself, who is improved but, alas, not fit and Johnson.
I've had no interest in going to see any PSFs this year so perhaps I am mistaken.

I'd like to think we could finish in the top 7, but we need Tarpey to be back to his best and Shaqs chipping in a good few too. This is the first season I can remember getting more anxious about the forthcoming season the nearer we get to it

A very honourable and deserved 6th place.

We usually do well in the National League (well, Conference as it was!) apart from 2002/03 where the inconsistency under Peter Shreeves was jaw-dropping. It feels the club has been swept through and we enter a new era. The new signings sound promising by John Still and I think if we make a good start we can take big followings to places like Aldershot, Chesterfield, Bromley and Leyton Orient in the late summer.

All in all, I'm very optimistic. I have my love back for football that's been missing after having severe depression a year ago. Can't wait for Aldershot!

COYB'S! :D

Why compare to 14/15? Makes no difference at all. This team has more than enough for the play offs at least.

Once I've worked out where the goals are coming from then I'll decide.

I think once we start to score a few goals in pre-season, we will start feeling a lot more optimistic.
We are close to having a balanced side right through the starting XI.
Still think we need to replace Akinde. We have forwards with plenty of running in them, but we still need a bit of "brute force" up there. In this division we will need it more than ever.
Barnet showing all the flair of Rupert-the-Bears trousers, but lots more style!

Just remember, people were not feeling very optimistic during the 14/15 pre-season!

In all fairness we have had some tricky pre-season games to start, QPR, West Brom and Fulham U23. Today should be a good goal fest..........

Goalfest, yes, but in all fairness Maldon Salt and Tiptree Jam FC are not National league standard. If we manage to get a decent result at the Cobblers next Tuesday I will have more confidence

One of the things I have learned over the years is that pre-season results mean very little - there have been years where from pre-season performances I have been convinced that we will do well and other pre-seasons where I have been deeply worrid.

After 35 years all I can say is that my expectations at the end of the preseason have sometimes been right and sometimes been wrong. For the first time in more than 30 years it is entirely possible I will miss all the pre-seasons games partly due to the World Cup and partly due to family commitments. As a consequence I don't really have any idea how we will do. I can see plausible reasons for optimism and some plausible reasons for concern. Since the team had had major surgery it's likely to take a bit of time to gell, so even early league results may not give us an accurate indication of how we will go over the season.
