Luton (Away) The Mad Hatters Bee Party Thread

Post: # 241910Post Bee_Forever »

Following the decision to release Westley and recall the dog, there is a new hound optimism and hope among supporters that we can rekindle our hopes of survival in League Woof (c. me).

To be fair we could not have asked for a ruff-er change than going to Kennellworth road, but hopefully our trimmed down squad will be able to show their pedigree.

With just 20 players retained and Nelson recalled to the team, it becomes quite a challenge to work out what team Martin will go for, but whatever team turns out you can be sure they will not leave anything on the pitch.

I would go:-

--------------------Stephens---------------------

---Brindley----Santos----Nelson---Tutonda----

--J. Taylor-------Sule----Sweeney--Weston----

---------------Akinde-----Nicholls---------------

Subs: Ross, Clough, Akpa-Akpro, Watson, Fonguck, Shomotun, Bover

I expect Allen to deploy Nicholls in a 5 man midfield with Weston pushed on but who knows when the dog is involved!

I am going to this one looking forward to a good day out, and hopefully a much needed win. I would urge others to do the same we need everyone we can get there supporting the team, rather than shouting from their armchair (aka doing a foxy :D )

Sweeney should play centre back with Nelson and rest Santos. Sweeney is not mobile enough as has been shown. Never seen sule.

A common theme at Luton.... Play fairly well, lose and get wet

Well are Luton going through a tricky period?

They haven't won in their last 5.

But only lost once in their last 8.

MA's results when coming back at times or peril..

2010/11:

LEAGUE TWO Sa 26Mar 2011 Barnet 2 - 2 Chesterfield D
LEAGUE TWO Sa 02Apr 2011 Burton 1 - 4 Barnet W
LEAGUE TWO Sa 09Apr 2011 Barnet 2 - 1 Crewe W

2011/12:

LEAGUE TWO Fr 13Apr 2012 Barnet 1 - 1 Hereford D
LEAGUE TWO Fr 20Apr 2012 Southend 3 - 0 Barnet L
LEAGUE TWO Sa 28Apr 2012 Barnet 4 - 0 AFC W'bledon W
LEAGUE TWO Sa 05May 2012 Burton 1 - 2 Barnet W

Won't bother listing his results when he replaced the Dutch fellas.

I know Chesterfield were at the top, but that was at home. Have to argue this weekends game is the toughest game he's faced when attempting to save us...

The Southend game was Martin first game back in 2012.
I think we had Hereford at the Hive for his first game back in 2014 though?

Would like to see Coulthirst get a run at CF - especially as plan A has been very ineffective. He was scoring for fun early in the season but then injured and since Akinde has been back he has been shunted to right wing - and hasn't looked the same player out wide. Would mean dropping Akinde so wont happen!

I'd go

GK - Stephens
Back 4 - Brindley, Sweeney, Santos, Tutonda
Midfield - JTaylor, Weston, Fonguck, Kyei
Forwards - Coulthirst, Nicholls

Subs, Legg, Clough, Watson, JLAA, Sule, Shomotom, Akinde

Allen will play a style that plays to Akinde’s strength; no way he’ll be dropped.

9/1 first GS for Saturday.

I predict a hat trick for Akinde and us winning 3-2, the winner coming from a penalty that Akinde wins.

I predict I may regret bringing my 10 and 6 year olds to this game and would have been better off paying a oneoff Now TV subscription to match the match on the box @ home....

Some nice pun work, Bee_Forever. Enjoyed the Doves lyrics last week, too.

Glad Akinola is back in the squad!

A squad of 21, minus 3 injuries, means everyone will travel, right?!

Great news about Akinola. I don't know what goes on behind the scenes, but I cannot understand how he has not been given a run of games
as a wide player when we the competition in our squad for a starting spot. For me he is more effective than Coultrist out wide and with a decent fullback behind
him think he has potential to be the Mauro 2.0 for final run in.

My starting XI would be (and I have always rated Ross over Stephens so for me is out first choice keeper)

--------------Ross
Brindley---Nelson ----Santos---Tutonda

------------Sweeney
--J Taylor-----------Akinola
------------Weston

------Akinde----Nicholls

And for second half if Nelson flags and Coultrist coming on for Akinde / Nicholls- whoever is more fatigued. Fonguck to replace Taylor / Weston.
If replacing Weston, play Taylor in more advanced position behind the strikers.

-----------------Ross

----Sweeney----Santos----Tutonda

-------------J Taylor----

Brindley------------------------Akinola
--------------Weston---

--------Akinde----Nicholls

Luke Gambin played 75 minutes for Malta last night, so I assume will not be involved against us, probably a good thing as he certainly had a point to prove against MA and had just come back into Luton's starting XI.

That's a shame. He would have blunted the Luton attack
