One for the anoraks
The Scandinavian Leagues' seasons end in the next couple of weeks. Can a player who is out of contract at one of their clubs join an English club as a free agent or would they have to wait until January? Maybe our friends in Norway know.

We can only sign players who were out of contract at 31st August.

Ok, thanks. I'm sure it won't be long before a "restraint of trade" action comes before a court somewhere. A decent lawyer could drive a coach and horses right through the current rules. It will be the next Bosman IMO.becbee wrote:We can only sign players who were out of contract at 31st August.

The scandinavian leagues (swedish, danish, norweigan and finnish) have a couple of weeks until the ens of our season, but the players who's contracts is coming to an end is still contracted until the 31 december so they'll technically become free agents the first of january. Almost all contracts in scandinavia ends the 31 december even though the last games is played mid november

I understand the same applies to the player in Ireland that we could be signing.SwedeBee wrote:The scandinavian leagues (swedish, danish, norweigan and finnish) have a couple of weeks until the ens of our season, but the players who's contracts is coming to an end is still contracted until the 31 december so they'll technically become free agents the first of january. What is the situation with players who are contracted to be paid on a pay when played basis? Are they effectively on a zero hours contract or are they effectively self employed and can walk away from their club whenever they want?
