I clearly go back a little further than Loudmouth, so the job becomes a little more difficult. To make it easier, I am going to pick two teams - my best ever Barnet XI and my favourite Barnet XI and as you will see only a couple of players make both teams.

The Best XI

Maik Taylor
Gary Poole
Linvoy Primus
Greg Heald
Simon King
Albert Adomah
Kenny Lowe
Nicky Bailey (first spell!)
Jason Puncheon
Dougie Freedman
John Akinde

Favourite XI

Gary Phillips
Paul Wilson
Linvoy Primus
Kevin Millett
Simon King
Luisma Villa
John Margerrison
Nicky Evans
Paul Showler
Liam Hatch
Sean Devine

I've been watching Barnet for 29 years and have almost exactly the same team as you:

Maik Taylor
Andy Yiadom
Linvoy Primus
Greg Heald
Geoff Cooper
Albert Adomah
Kenny Lowe
Luisma Villa
Jason Puncheon
Gary Bull
Dougie Freedman

The main areas where I struggled were:

Right back - Yiadom, Hendon or Poole. Three great right backs, I just feel Andy was more adaptable and really shone for us.

Left back - Cooper or King. I think Cooper was more of a specialist in this position.

Centre midfield - Villa or Wilson. Wilson should be in the side for balance, but Villa just makes me smile, and his set pieces get him in.

Up front - Bull / Freedman / Akinde. The hardest decision by a distance. How do you choose between the man who scored the most brilliant goals for four season and spearheaded the holy grail of promotion to the football league, in a time when it meant even more than it does today, I'm sure he is still banging them in today for someone. And the classiest forward, who came for one season (plus a few more games) only, tore apart the league, scoring for fun, including against Premier League opposition after 27 seconds, before moving onto better things. And the current main man, who carries the team at times, is our top football league scorer of all time, and is loyal in a time where that is rare. Arrrghhhhh, what have I done!? I've left out my favourite ever Bee!!!!!!!

Such a shame Simon King got that injury. Magnificent player and partial to some Nicky Evans hair treatment.

You can't have a best Barnet XI without Freedman.
Can't argue with Pletch team but wish I could fit Showler into it.

I go back some fifty years watching the Bees and to pick a best Barnet Xi is quite difficult because back in those days when we had crusty cheese rolls and a hot cup of Bovril for threepence, we played in the Southern League and latterly in the Conference, on pitches which contained mostly mud using heavy leather balls. Any of the those old-time players playing today would be skinned. And similarly the players today do not have the physical being to handle the conditions, nor the constant fouling.

But if we are going to talk about a top Barnet player we have to mention Les Eason who scored 223 goals in seven seasons at the end of the 1960s/start of the 1970s. I doubt that Big John will match this (but hope he will of course!). Roger Figg knocked in 124 goals around that time as well and later on Nicky Evans scored 138 in six seasons during the 1980s. And then there were wonderful players like Frank Murphy, Harry Willis, Gary Abbott, Noel Ashford and Andy Clarke that no-one seems to have mentioned.

So my best Barnet XI would be:-

Maik Taylor (my heart would be with Lee Harrison or Gary Phillips)
Andy Yiadom
Linvoy Primus (no brainer)
Greg Heald
Mick Bodley
Albert Adomah
Nicky Bailey
Luisma Villa (probably the most skilful player who ever played for us)
Gary Bull
Les Eason
Andy Clarke.

But they would make a lousy team if they played together today! Big John could make the team if he stays with us and scores loads more goals in the next couple of seasons.

Anyone who doesn't pick Nicky isn't a Bees fan.

Didn't see enough of him as I stayed away during the tenure of a certain manager.

I haven't been around as long as a lot of you so I have distinctly fewer players to pick from a lots of quality that I have to leave out because they were before my time as a fan.

Harri would get the nod from me.

I liked Frenchy at left back, (Gillet), and he gets the nod from EJ. There is nobody else worthy of consideration at left back.

RIght back is a toss-up between Yids and Hendo and not much in it. I would go for Yids though because I think he will get better and better. We have often been stronger at right back however and both Fuller and Devera were considered.

Centre-half is both easy and tough. Easy in that Yaks is nailed on as my 1st choice, but tough because the 2nd choice is so hard. Pearce and Hector were both mighty impressive for us, and if only he hadn't always been injured, I thought DD was brilliant. In the end I would probably ignore the 2 loanees and the injury-prone DD and go for Stephens as partner to Yaks.

Centre-midfield is easy for me. Bishop and NB get the nod, but I remember Hessenthaler showing the young-uns how to do it on many occasion and he just kept it so simple and made it look so easy. Josh Wright also really stood out for me but I have already decided that I am not going to include loanees.

Wide is a really tough choice for many because of the abundance of quality, but for me it's quite easy. Punch and Albert get the nod over Charlton pair Ricky and MM, and I personally will always have a soft spot for Gambin simply because I found him so enjoyable to watch in a team that was often quite a hard watch. Bolasie not considered again because a loanee.

Up front it's not that hard for me. I missed Freedman, Devine and McGleish and even Agogo, so have to content myself with a choice between Graz, Hatch, Birchall, (I really liked him as a player but he just couldn't stick the ball in the net often enough), O'Flynn Jake Hyde, (who often ploughed a lonely and frustrating furrow up front), and of course Big John. Yes, agreed, it's really not that hard to pick Graz and Big John out of this bunch.

--------------Harri.

Yids. Stephens. Yaks. Frenchy.

---------NB. Bishop.

Albert.------------------ Punch.

--------Graz. Big John.

Bench: (yes I know that's cheating), Stack, Hendo, Devera, EJ, Luisma, Holmes, & O'Flynn.

[Edit]

Fecksake! Forgot Simon King, (and Luisma initially), but not editing again.

In about 10 minutes I will regret this as it feels like I am letting dozens of mates down by not picking them . I need a Barnet all time squad like you won't believe.

Harrison
Hendon
Primus
Bodley
Cooper
Lowe
Evans
Margerrison
Clarke
Eason
Freeman

You can only win a game if you score more than the opposition this team would certainly score s*it loads.
Sorry to so many names and great players and heroes.
