The transfer rumour mill has started.

I'd settle for some decent second hand ones !!!!!!!!!ETBee wrote:It appears that the club is finding it difficult to attract new players.

All I've heard is that there was hope that we would be able to make some signings in the next week or so, but even that was dependant on the players being the right fit for the club.beew wrote:I don't understand why they announced the news of imminent signings in the first place. It's a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation. Say nothing until it's done and you get people complaining about a lack of updates. Try and keep people updated and they complain that it's not happening quick enough.

Re: The transfer rumour mill has started.
Sure this has been mentioned elsewhere, but for free transfer signings, which are our normal stock in trade we do not normally announce these until the end of June as this prevents their current club from stopping their current wages prior to them leaving.
Expect to hear more in a couple of week's time.

Correct B4E, clubs are liable for players july salary on players whose contracts expire on June 30 if the player has not found alternative employment by a certain date I believe from the JLAA scenario last summer & Charlie MacDonald 3 years ago!Bee_Forever wrote:Sure this has been mentioned elsewhere, but for free transfer signings, which are our normal stock in trade we do not normally announce these until the end of June as this prevents their current club from stopping their current wages prior to them leaving.

Re: The transfer rumour mill has started.
Can't remember any other recent seasons where we haven't signed a single player in six weeks after the season finished. Lots of good players being snapped up by other clubs - worrying if there's some reason they don't want to come to us.
Re: The transfer rumour mill has started.
Equally, there's still plenty of decent players yet to sign anywhere else. One example being Charlie Lee, released by Chavenage, who was mentioned a few weeks back and might be the sort of all action player we want in the centre of midfield. Give it another week and as we approach the end of June it will be transfer mayhem. For all we know, deals have already been done but the announcement is deliberately delayed for contractual reasons.
Barnet showing all the flair of Rupert-the-Bears trousers, but lots more style!

Who had we signed by this time last year? I might be forgetting someone, but I can't recall anyone being announced until July 1st.LoringBee wrote:Can't remember any other recent seasons where we haven't signed a single player in six weeks after the season finished. Nichols and Watson came in July and AKAA and JCR in August. I'm sure players want to come to us as our facilities are above the standard for this league but it seems we don't want to pay the money early. To me this is risky as any player who is available and talented will be taken by the club's who are prepared to do their business early.

Why are people wetting their pants so much
Re: The transfer rumour mill has started.
Because history has a nasty feeling about it. We've been constantly told that we're in good shape financially but that doesn't add up in our signings. The squad at present is likely to be relegated.john dockers shorts wrote:Why are people wetting their pants so much

I'm long enough in the tooth to trust those running my football club, opposed to unqualified fans who have no understanding of how the signing of players work...

Re: The transfer rumour mill has started.
I'm a great believer in getting business done early because you are sure of getting exactly who you want. The longer things are left, the harder things become.
Other clubs have been doing business for weeks, but, true to form, Barnet leave things as long as they possibly can. Why are they any different? The likely explanation is to save a few quid.
Surely, players looking at signing for any club want the uncertainty out of the way as soon as possible, so they know what the future holds.

Evidence? The fact that they looked shit under Nugent? I wouldn't worry.beew wrote:Because history has a nasty feeling about it.
