The League Managers Association five-man Performance of the Week panel, comprising LMA Chairman Howard Wilkinson, Sir Alex Ferguson, Joe Royle, Dave Bassett and Barry Fry, were in agreement that this week, the F&C Thames River Performance of the Week Award should go to Barnet following their excellent 1-0 away win against Portsmouth in the Carling Cup on Tuesday 9th August 2011.
Barnet manager Lawrie Sanchez will receive a specially engraved crystal football in a presentation to be screened on Sky Soccer Saturday on 13th August 2011.
Barnet secured the first Performance of the Week Award for the 2011/12 campaign, with a memorable league cup display at Fratton Park.
The visitors went ahead on the half hour, courtesy of a Mark Hughes header which rewarded Barnet for their dominant play. After following up their opening day win at Morecambe, this victory over the Championship outfit ensured a very positive start to the season for the club.
After the match, Sanchez was delighted with the performance which secured The Bee’s passage into the next round;
"I always tell my side that this is a great opportunity for a scalp to be had.
"I do not have a preference for who we are drawn against. With great respect we will probably not win the Carling Cup but we would like to go on a fair way in it and hopefully fill the coffers.
"If that happens then it could mean that the chairman gives me a little more money to bring in one or two more players because the squad is great but we could do with perhaps a little more experience"."

Shows the difference having a high profile manager means. We are always on sky and BBC! fantastic!
Re: Some nice PR
Wait til the FA Cup starts... then the media will all love us as they start harping on about events which happened nearly 25 years ago
Barnet showing all the flair of Rupert-the-Bears trousers, but lots more style!

Absolute dream for Lawrie so far. Just what he wanted..
appearing left right and centre, doing the league cup second round draw on tv, league 2 performance of the week. He is getting his face back out there fantastically, and if it means a great season for the bees, then so be it. He'll be in a much higher job next season.
Thought it was a nice touch the Barnet badge he was wearing while doing the draw. Just about big enough for Barnet fans to recognise, small enough for him to brush off while out for drinks with mates.

Barnet, Barnet, Barnet, because...we're staying up, and it's the bondz the bondz the bondz the bondz the bondz the bondz the bondz that will keep us together...
Why does it always fall to Togwell?

So can we put the Vale result down to the "F&C Thames River Performance of the Week Award" curse?
