If only we had a state of the art training facility that could bring our professional footballers' fitness levels up to that required for playing 90 minutes of football twice a week.............

I am talking about today's game, if you didn't see it, then you are in denial.Mr Smart wrote:Wow! This board used to have some sense of reality. We still have half our first team out including our best player. Talk of lack of passion is complete BS.
The team's running on fumes. We desperately need fresh legs in the side. There's no sharpness in the side mentally or physically because they've all played a similar number of games with barely any rotation. I saw a side today comprised of several players who have never played so many games in their careers in such a short space of time, who got out pressed and didn't have the legs to keep up.
A week's rest is here nor there when you're like Jack Taylor or Tutonda who've never played 12+ first team games in a row. Or Harry Taylor who's played WB in every game, the most demanding position. Or JCR a 35 year old being asked to press the opposition hard. Even Mauro looked off the pace. He's covered some ground this season.
I like Rossi but he needs to freshen the team up just to get some energy back into the side otherwise we will look sluggish on Tuesday as well.
As for talk of MA, I still haven't seen us lose a game by more than a goal this season. We had regular thumpings under MA and we conceded late goals too.
As for freshening it up, just where are the players going to come from.
If Rossi doesn't fancy some of them, they are unlikely to pull up trees
for him, if they are selected.

You can't rotate what you ain't got. We are down to the bare bones. Unless somebody makes a miraculous recovery, I doubt there is anybody not in the squad today who would make the slightest difference.
For the record, I doubt Rossi would even consider Nicholls, Sweeney or Watson - not that the latter two look capable of making even the slightest impact.

Anyone would think we've just lost five on the bounce, today wasn't great but all I could hear around me was how well we've been playing we all know there are issues that Rossi's will need to address, I think all teams and managers have that, Mr Klopp has them and their 5th in the League. Is it that we seem to play better way from home thats pissing people off? I'll take three points way from home as much as three at Home.

The lack of a defensive midfielder is the first issue he needs to address.

Wish he'd stuck to playing his Hammond organStephenM wrote:Jimmy Smith the scorer, that's a good old fashioned name.

The 'defensive midfielder' theme is slightly off the mark for me. We simply need another 'midfielder'.
Jack Taylor, 19, is the only mf with tactical/positional discipline: look at how he covers for others and is regularly available to revive the ball. JCR and Mauro (yesterday at least) seem to be afforded free roles. This is great when in possession but causes huge problems when possession changes and we've only Jack in a recognised mf position.
JCR is not a CM, his effort cannot be questioned but he does not smell the danger in the way a player who's played the position his whole life does. Mauro is more of a mf though his first half was abysmal today. Rossi and Armstrong have dragged Jack Taylor for three consecutive games and we've conceded after his withdrawal. I genuinely can't see how we get any better by taking him off in tight games; It baffles me.
Why not play Wes, Jack and Mauro nominally in front?

Use the youngsters or look at free agents.

Cue stock lecture No1 on free agents and why a perfect sensible idea won't work for Barnet.#Beebot wrote:This.Mr Smart wrote:Wow! This board used to have some sense of reality. We still have half our first team out including our best player. Talk of lack of passion is complete BS.

We're currently paying several members of the first team squad to sit in the stands. That's probably a good place to start. I'm not a huge fan of them but if it gave us the chance to give a couple of our players a breather for a couple of games then I don't see how much harm it could do the team compared to what's been happening for a couple of games. My biggest concern is a knackered player over stretching for the ball and then being out for months.
As for free agents, TK said in his Q&A we had one on his way. What happened to that player?

Why are we so knackered, lack of minutes for 1st team players during preseason thus they were lacking match fitness going into the season!Mr Smart wrote:We're currently paying several members of the first team squad to sit in the stands. Could be at the start of that if something doesn't change, Lincoln and Wycombe away, if we get anything from them we'll have done well. Not pessimism, just realism.Mickbee wrote:Anyone would think we've just lost five on the bounce

Fully agree, but there is no absolutely indication that the players in the stand are even members of the first team squad.Mr Smart wrote:We're currently paying several members of the first team squad to sit in the stands. It's not like we had loads of triallists and new signings in preseason either....jerroll wrote:Why are we so knackered, lack of minutes for 1st team players during preseason thus they were lacking match fitness going into the season!Mr Smart wrote:We're currently paying several members of the first team squad to sit in the stands. Re: Crawley (Hive) The "What's Up Doc?" Match Thread
As I wrote a page ago on this thread, we have a lot of players in our side who've never played this many games in a row, some with young bodies still adjusting to adult football, some who have been bit part players elsewhere and a 35 year old in our CM being asked to press. Guarantee they'd all pass a match fitness test but it's the sharpness that they're lacking, either in their decision making or getting to or reading the pitch of the ball. One of the details that was working for us a couple of weeks ago was our MF nipping in and intercepting. It's not happening now.jerroll wrote:Why are we so knackered, lack of minutes for 1st team players during preseason thus they were lacking match fitness going into the season!Mr Smart wrote:We're currently paying several members of the first team squad to sit in the stands. Most teams through a natural evolution through the season where players are dropped or have a small injury for a week keep the team fresh without much thought being put into. We're hardly changing any players. I'm a Rossi fan but he needs to trust one or two players on his bench to play 90 mins from time to time to give those in the 11 a break.
