Barnet Restaurants/Pubs. news & reviews

Post: # 1319Post grrgerald »

Anyone checked out the new Spanish restaurant in High Barnet ?
I think that it is up the small alley opposite the church.
Bit early, I know, but I've got a right flavour for tapas and rioja!

At the Barnet fair i spoke to the bloke who owns it and he was very nice saying everything is made fresh in the restaurant, but yet found the time to go in and see what's it like. I like Spanish food and can recommend the Spanish restaurant in Southgate on the roundabout.

Thanx John.
We've been to the one in Southgate before but are looking for somewhere local this weekend.
It's a toss up between the Spanish in HB or the Greek in Lytton Rd.

Gerald, I'm not sure if you've been there before but I wasn't massively impressed with the Greek restaurant on Lytton Road. The rabbit I chose was mostly bone and the stock could have been watered down a little but everyone else seemed to enjoy it so there you go.

In Barnet (the town), I always fancy Suruchi's for a meal. Top quality curry house. Otherwise Durum in Finchley does a fine flame grilled kebab.

I went to Suruchi's at christmas time for the first time and it is a really good restaurant and would go again.

Cheers chaps,
Mike, I'm very surprised about your Greek experience. I have been there before and thoroughly enjoyed it. The rabbit is a big favourite of Tony "Slim" Skinner and he has even had it delivered to him during his spell in hospital. Mind you he has been in there for ages and I reckon he'd enjoy chewing on shoe leather instead of hospital scram !!!
I had a look at the Spanish yesterday lunchtime and I reckon that's where we will head for.

Went to the Medi Lounge and Grill in North Finchely last night. I'd thoroughly recommend it for some nice mediterranean fare washed down with a bottle of chianti.

Marvellous!

Cheers Ollie.

We went Spanish last night and had a great evening. Some of the portions were on the smallish side (octopus, gambas) and therefore overpriced but the sardines and the chorizo were bang on and washed down well with a decent bottle of house Rioja.
Definitely recommend it.

Doyley, have you tried La Porchetta in Muswell Hill? Good food with a lively atmosphere all at a fair price.

If you enjoy a good ruby, the Anuraag in Cockfosters is superb, as my NWT friends will concur :D
